Textile Recycling
Up to One million tons of clothing is land filled each year in the UK.
Defra have identified clothing as up to 10% of our total environmental impact and will continue to increase without action.
Clothing is now one of the 7 priority waste product groups in England’s Waste Strategy.
Synthetic fabrics such as Polyester and Nylon are unsustainable. As well being non- biodegradable they use large amounts of energy and pollutants during manufacture.
Nitrous oxide, a greenhouse gas more than 310 times more potent than carbon dioxide
is created during the production of Nylon.
- Reduce the environmental impact by recycling your company work wear and protective clothing.
- Add a textile recycling point to your workplace.
- Pass used garments to a licensed local textile recycling operation.
Duty of Care
If you are a business, you must ensure that the clothing is passed to an operation with the legal authority to take the waste.
